Dr. Libu Varughese is a board-certified endocrinologist with Endocrine & Diabetes Plus Clinic of Houston, the practice he started in 2019. He was named a 2020 Texas Super Doctors Rising Star and a Top Endocrinologist in Houston by America's Best Doctors.
A native Houstonian, he began medical school at age 16 at Mahatma Gandhi University in India. He completed his internal medicine residency at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Centre in Phoenix (now part of Creighton University), where he served as Chief Resident and as Co-Chair of the American College of Physicians Council of Resident/Fellow Members.
He then completed his fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center, training at Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub, the Houston VA, MD Anderson and St. Luke's. His research focused on diabetes medications and their effects on inflammation and endothelial function.
Today he is a Volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Houston College of Medicine and teaches residents in the Memorial Hermann Family Medicine Residency Program. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism. Broad experience across endocrinology, with particular interest in diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary disease, and low testosterone.
Diabetes
Type 1, type 2, LADA and gestational diabetes. CGMs, insulin pumps and GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro.

Hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, Graves' disease, nodules and thyroid cancer, with in-office ultrasound and FNA biopsy.

Osteoporosis, bone density review, fracture prevention, calcium and vitamin D, and bone-building therapies.

Adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome, adrenal nodules, pituitary tumors and complex hormone workups.
